The Rotary Club of Summerside recently held its Mardi Grad curling bonspiel, sponsored by Napa Auto Parts. 40 teams (160 players) participated in the three day bonspiel.

The bonspiel has become the chief fundraiser for our STRIVE Program. The STRIVE Program is a mentorship program which awards five $1000 scholarships to Three Oaks Senior High school graduates. In the past five years the Rotary Club has donated over $20,000 to local students wishing to pursue post-secondary education.

This year we combined our annual pancake breakfast with the curling bonspiel for an additionally successful weekend. Saturday started with our pancake breakfast and finished with the closing ceremony’s banquet for all the curlers and sponsors. It made for a busy Saturday for all our volunteers, but it was a great fellowship building experience.

A tremendous thank you to Napa Provincial Auto parts for agreeing to come on as our title sponsor once again this year. The tournament could not have been such a success without the generous support. In addition to our title sponsor, thank you to the various other sponsors which contributed to the overall success. Finally, thank you to all the volunteers who donated their time; the bonspiel could not have been run without you. The industrious, hard-working volunteers in charge of the 50/50 alone raised over $1000!

We hope to build off this year’s success and have an even bigger, better experience next year! The organizers are already thinking ahead! Spread the word!
